Durst and OMET announce KJet to be launched at Drupa

Durst has announced the next stage of the relationship with OMET – the KJet – will be launched at drupa.

The launch of the KJet follows an announcement at Labelexpo in Brussels extending the hybrid development partnership between the two organisations beyond the XJet platform.

“The current XJet platform, which has been the leading hybrid solution in the market with multiple installations worldwide, will be further improved and expanded,” both companies said at the time.

Durst sales director for labels and packaging, Thomas Macina, revealed the KJet will be the next product to be launched from the OMET partnership.

“The combination of digital with flexo offers an innovative hybrid solution that maximises productivity and flexibility, enabling printers to select between flexo or digital printing, thereby optimising efficiency and reducing costs while meeting evolving market demands such as personalisation and just-in-time deliveries in a single-pass,” Macina said.

“We have been leading the inkjet label printing market for many years and we provide solutions for all label converters around the world, starting with entry level solutions up to industrial needs with 100 metres per minute and 510 millimetres wide,” Macina said.

“We have been observing a clear market trend towards end to end production and this is why we have reinforced our partnership with OMET. At drupa, you will see we are launching a new machine – the KJet – which is the perfect combination of a dual-servo cylinder based flexo unit combined with the robustness, efficiency and productivity of the Durst RSCi digital print engine. This provides a new experience to operators in terms of simplicity, minimal set-up time and low waste.

Durst Oceania managing director, Matt Ashman, said he is looking forward to showing Australian and New Zealand converters the latest developments from the hybrid strategy at drupa.

“To have this OMET Hybrid solution with a Durst RSCi as its digital core is really the perfect solution for the busy label converter as they benefit from all of the advantages of our digital expertise as well as OMET’s analogue expertise. On behalf of Durst Oceania, we are very proud to be selling this solution.”

“This is really beyond your standard label press,” said Christoph Gamper.

“It is customised to the needs of the converter and it is a perfect synergy. We see the alliance with OMET as the best of both worlds. There is no need to invent everything by ourselves. We are the digital experts – this is where we are coming from and this is where we are going,” he said.

Durst Group Celebrates Milestone Installation at Mold-Tek Packaging Limited, Revolutionizing Digital Printing for In-Mold Labels

Brixen, 29/01/2024 – Durst Group, a global leader in industrial printing solutions, is excited to announce the successful integration of its cutting-edge technology at Mold-Tek Packaging Limited, a major player in the Indian packaging sector.

Established in 1986, Mold-Tek has grown to dominate with around 25% market share, over 2000 employees, 10 production plants, and a fleet of over 150 injection machines. Specializing in manufacturing injection-molded containers for various uses, Mold-Tek is known for innovative solutions in paint and lube pails.

Mold-Tek’s dedication to excellence is evident in its 100% backward integration, covering own molds and dies, robots, design studio, and In-Mold Labels (IML) through both analog and digital printing – a unique approach in the industry.

Recognizing the need for digital printing for high-quality In-Mold Labels, Mold-Tek partnered with Durst Group and Newgen Printronics – official partner for Durst Group in India – with specific objectives:

  • Just-in-time/Print on demand solutions
  • Short and medium runs
  • Variable data printing
  • Versatility and agility
  • Waste and energy reduction

In response, Durst Group provided the “Best in class” industrial solution – the RSCi 510mm with priming and varnishing stations. The first Flexo unit was equipped with UV and hot air dryers, offering versatility in coatings based on the end application.

Navigating the technical complexities of In-Mold Labeling presented challenges in material handling, tension control, drying and curing parameters, construction resistance, and static load throughout the production process. However, close collaboration among Mold-Tek, Newgen Printronics – the local distributor and Durst-Partner – and Durst by itself proved crucial in overcoming these challenges and ensuring project success.

This installation marks a significant milestone in the partnership between Durst Group and Mold-Tek Packaging, showcasing the seamless integration of advanced digital printing solutions into the rigid plastic packaging industry.

While additional challenges persist, the commitment of Mold-Tek, Newgen Printronics India, and Durst, supported by valued partners such as Schober Technologies, Actega, Michelman, and Jindal-Treofan, reinforces confidence in continued success and innovation in the field.

Ink saving tool and data preparation tool

Ink_Saving

Every Drop Counts

Resource management is a strong lever in the overall sustainability discussion, which seeks to optimize the consumption of raw materials and materials across the entire value chain. This is also associated with cost savings, which have a positive impact on return on investment (ROI) and total cost of ownership (TCO). Economy and ecology are not mutually exclusive; they go much more hand in hand. A good example of this is the Ink Save module of the Durst Workflow browser-based software.

The Durst ECO system

Software solutions now play a central role in Durst’s ECO system. The aim is to drive process optimization and automation on the one hand, and to actively support customers’ sustainability efforts on the other. Thanks to the Pixel to Output approach, modular and flexible solutions can be implemented in practice for every customer.

The Ink Save Tool

The Ink Save module aims to sustainably reduce ink consumption while optimizing the quality of colour reproduction. It uses a well-known technique – the so-called achromatic build-up or GCR (Grey Component Replacement). The advantages of this can be seen in the lower color application and higher stability in the grey tones. No specific specialist knowledge is required as an operator. You simply specify how much the tool should intervene. It is not necessary to re-profile the print data; the Ink Save module performs the conversion in the background. The potential ink savings of up to 35% are enormous.

___________  save up to 26% ink!

Data Preparation Tool

With the Data Preparation Tool, the print data provided by the customer can be processed directly in the browser without additional software. There are more than 100 functions to choose from. The spectrum ranges from format changes to the creation of a coating or cutting die and expanding the number of pages or sheets to the processing of spot colors.

___________  save up to 26% ink!

The tool is often used in label printing in particular to limit the print area to the die-cutting contour plus bleed. This leads to a reduction in ink consumption, but also to considerable material savings in the step & repeat process.

In combination with the Ink Save tool, there is enormous potential for savings.

Practical experience has shown that the Data Preparation Tool can save up to 26% of ink.

Customer testimonials

clever-systemtechnik-logo

“We use the Ink Save tool for around 80% of all print jobs. In the 2022 fiscal year, we were able to achieve a cost saving of 34% per square meter – without any loss of quality!”

Niko von Hanstein
Head of Production and Prepress
Clever Systemtechnik GmbH

“In mid-2022, we installed a P5 HS 350 with Durst Workflow software. We mainly print weatherproof posters on polypropylene. Our daily print volume on the P5 is between 2,000 and 5,000 m2. With such a high-volume, efficient color management is extremely important. For most posters, we opt for a medium setting in the Ink Saving tool, which allows us to save up to 15% ink. For larger print runs, we intervene even more strongly depending on the motif and thus reduce ink consumption by 25%.”

Label Lab grows with GM DC330Mini label finisher

Amman, Jordan based converter Label Lab has reported significant growth after installation of GM DC330Mini label finisher which was installed as a central part of the new label production setup. Propelled by this growth, the converter intends to acquire additional GM equipment.
When Ahmad Alramahi created his new label business in 2021, his vision was clear – to propel Label Lab to rapid success. Among the initial strategic investments was a GM DC330Mini label finisher.
Today, with a team of 11 staff members, the company serves a multitude of customers across Iraq, Saudi Arabia, UEA, Palestine, and Turkey, even as far away as Germany. Label Lab caters to a variety of industries, including the food, fertilizing, and medical sectors. This success has largely been enabled by the high-performance DC330Mini, which Alramahi believes has given his company a significant competitive advantage.
‘The DC330Mini from GM has been a central driver in our success, allowing us to produce perfectly finished labels for our customers. This compact machine may be “mini” in size, but it delivers outstanding performance and quality, plus it never breaks down,’ he said. ‘The registration is perfect at all speeds and the user-friendliness means it is extremely easy to run, even for our less experienced operators.’
Capitalizing on the agility and speed of the DC330Mini, Label Lab serves customers with small and large batches of high-quality labels. This flexibility has allowed the company to grow to the point where Alramahi is actively considering investing in more label converting equipment from GM to expand into high-value luxury markets. His recently visited GM’s headquarters in Denmark to evaluate various machines and discuss new opportunities.
‘We are now at the point where we need to expand our capabilities, so we can elevate our production to the high-value segment and add more automation in the process,’ he explained. ‘I’m particularly interested in the HF330 Hot Foil unit, the LC350 Laser die-cutter, and the DVM350 Digital Varnish module. These technologies would really help set Label Lab apart from the competition and take us to the next level.’
Expressing his gratitude for the support from GM and its distributor Sixth Dimension, which facilitated the sale of the DC330Mini to Label Lab, Alramahi concluded: ‘We do business with people – not companies. And the people behind GM have been very supportive of our label journey, from the machine design to the day-to-day assistance, with knowledge and understanding. This has not only given us increased operational efficiency but also contributed to our financial success – and I would recommend GM any time.’
As the distributor for the Jordan, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia markets, Sixth Dimension provides label printing and finishing systems. The company´s mission is to offer a blend of know-how, application, technology, and after-sales service to its customers.
Maher Dakkouri, CEO of Sixth Dimension, commented: ‘We work closely with our customers to secure their future success and help them reach their full potential. Sharing the journey with Label Lab has been a real honor, and we look forward to our future collaboration as this successful label printing company continues to invest in more GM equipment.’
