GM to showcase next level label finishing technology at Labelexpo 2023

August 2023, Denmark – GM (Grafisk Maskinfabrik) will bring the full force of its advanced finishing solutions for digitally printed labels to Labelexpo Europe 2023 in September. The Danish specialist manufacturer will demonstrate nine machines at the show, all designed to streamline the converting process and empower converters to finish first.

 

“We are really looking forward to showing visitors the many innovative ways that our machines can optimize their finishing process,” says Uffe Nielsen, GM’s CEO. “Automation is driving profits and it is the key to growth. Our mission is to build automation into as many aspects as possible, whether that is through technology innovation, like the GM laser die-cutting module, or partnerships with other industry leaders, such as CERM.”

The spotlight on stand 9A40 will shine on the highly automated DC350Flex+ Wine line for premium label embellishment. Designed for adding maximum value to digital labels for luxury markets, particularly wine, spirits, cosmetics, and beauty, it is particularly noteworthy for its exceptional foiling and embossing capabilities and striking digital varnish effects.
The DC350+ Flex Wine features a 50-ton hot stamping module, which uses multiple foil streams. It also comes with an integrated Foil Saver which effectively reduces the wastage of costly foils, while GM’s QuickMount technology facilitates faster mounting of the embossing plates.

 

DC350Flex+ Wine will feature the DVM350 Digital Varnish Module, which uses the latest inkjet technology for digital embellishment. This is a faster, more flexible, and cost-effective alternative to screen-printing for adding spot varnish, high-build tactile effects, including warning triangles and Braille, as well as metallics and holograms, all in one process.

At the other end of the market, GM offers a range of compact and ultra-compact highly effective finishing machines. The show will demonstrate the power of the smallest offering, the DC350Nano, which will impress with its power, speed, and flexibility, all built-in to the smallest footprint machine. Meanwhile, a wider version of GM’s compact Hot Foil unit, the new HF350, will demonstrate an affordable and simple way of adding embossing and foiling effects. It can be set up as an independent embellishment unit or connected to a digital press or the DCMini compact label finisher, which will also be introduced at the show.

 

Visitors to the show can also experience the SR550 slitter inspection rewinder, which offers high-speed slitting up to 300m/min and 100% quality inspection; the LR250+ label camera inspection rewinder, which can be configured for pharma labels and even turned into a mini-inkjet digital press; the LR250 economical label inspection rewinder that comes as vertical tabletop model; the CC160S semi-automatic core cutter; and the CS350 high-speed sheeter. In addition, the team will be handing out samples of functional labels equipped with RFID technology, allowing visitors to experience the capabilities of the new GM RFID lines firsthand.

Durst Group showcases Durst Hawk Eye

The optional, integrated rolling system, for roll-in, roll-out multi- pallet logistics management is engineered to meet the specific site automation requirements and can incorporate the automatic, in-line or stand alone, Reversa sheet turner for further automation.

Another option that has been widely adopted is the Acetal unloading conveyor which can be programmed to unload single, or batches of boards as required.

Two independent, multi-tool cutting heads cut and crease single or multiple smaller boards and Elitron’s patented ‘Airo Panel’ then removes all cut and waste material and creates a neat stack in the unloading bay, on the waiting pallet.

The highly eficient vacuum Airo Panel removes even the most testing cutting jobs and waste materials completely, and the company says that many of its customers say, “the Airo Panel is a real game-changer”.

For honeycomb, double and triplewall boards, the new, patented DL45 tool makes light of cutting a 90 degree V-Cut in one single pass, cutting production times of these materials by 50%, without compromising on the highest quality finish

The recently launched new PMH, Protective Material Handling system, ensures printed board is handled with the utmost care when being automatically loaded, to avoid any damage to the print. This system doesn’t drag sheets when loading but uses a contactless method to prevent any damage.

“Not only have Elitron invested in innovation of late, but they have also reduced energy consumption for their customers too. From 2023 all Elitron systems now come with the new EPMS, Elitron Power Management System which reduces energy consumption of the powerful vacuum by up to 50%,” concludes Malatesta.

The Top Level in wide format printing

Durst P5 500 D4 is a large format printer with LED curing technology. With a printing width of 5.2 m, it is suitable for many roll-to-roll applications for unrivalled production. An integrated roll support greatly simplifies media loading and changing. Rolls can be processed in single, dual and triple mode – in dual mode even asymmetrically. It is capable of printing one 5.24 m roll or simultaneously printing two 2.5 m rolls or three 1.625 m wide rolls or even 2 asymmetrical rolls (3.2 m + 1.625 m). Printing can be done unattended by the operator, with reliable performance and most importantly with excellent print quality even at very high production speeds allowing printing companies to complete their jobs faster.

The Durst P5 Double 4 (D4) technology maximizes the productivity of the P5 UV series printing systems through the implementation of a double CMYK color configuration. With print heads that deliver a 7 picoliters drop, the resolution is 700×1200 dpi or 900×1200 dpi. It can be configured with 10 channels by adding other colors. The printer has a system for automatic measurement of the width of the printing materials, a system for holding the materials at the edges, printing on both sides with absolute coincidence and systems for cutting the printed roll at the output without interrupting the printing.

Rapid Expansion Requires Second Digital Press

PUBBLISERVICE The rapid expansion of the label market prompted the company to invest in a Durst Tau printing system in 2017 and in a second machine now.

Pubbliservice Srl was founded in 1984 in Parma/I as a traditional screen printing company out of the passion of the Salati family. In 2015, the business expanded with the opening of a new division dedicated to digital label printing, able to interact with traditional finishing systems.
“Our customer base includes small manufacturers and suppliers who turn to us to produce highly customised products,” explains Filippo Salati, Pubbliservice sales manager, “a service for which the speed of execution and quality guaranteed by Tau is a key element.”
The evolution of Pubbliservice’s business and the continuous growth that has characterised the labels sector in recent years have led the company to expand its production department and invest in a second Tau. A decision dictated by the desire to enter new markets by being able to quickly meet the demands of a larger customer base with this new addition.
Installed at Pubbliservice in March 2023, the new Tau 330 RSC has a CMYK + white configuration and is equipped with an inspection camera that allows real-time print quality verification. The company’s goals for the near future include the development of an online shop dedicated to custom label printing.

Durst P5 350 HSR: Fastest roll-to-roll printing system

Durst’s high-performance hybrid printing system, the Durst P5 350 HS, is joined by its ultra-fast counterpart for roll-to-roll applications, the P5 350 HSR. The P5 HSR high-speed 3.5-meter LED roll-to-roll printer achieves print speeds of up to 670 m2 per hour and can be equipped with an optional master roll.
